Katie and Tony, both professors, met through professional associations, annual meetings, and conferences from days past. As they attended these conferences attempting to cultivate and contribute to the wonderful world leadership learning and development, inevitably they were met with opportunities to enjoy a beverage or two over dinner after a draining day of events and presentations. This is where Tony shined as an organizer, motivator, and supporter of inclusion inviting all to join in the adventure. At one of these early conferences Katie accepted an invitation to join in the festivities and partake in the community. As the new association member, Tony took a particular interest in her work. This led to a budding professional relationship and after working on research manuscripts, presentations, and a myriad of other projects together through the years, their travels separately took them to Brussels, Belgium for a conference. Their mutual curiosity and desire to explore led to them join friends in an adventure across the EU at the conclusion of the conference. However, the trip took a decided turn for the better when all of their friends bailed on the excursion leaving only Katie and Tony to travel to Amsterdam. The two traveled the canals, sampled the local fare, and talked, and talked, and talked. That night, as they returned to Brussels, Katie’s hand found Tony’s on the train, and when they arrived at the hotel Tony mustered enough courage to share that first kiss as they rode the elevator. Another kiss and a goodnight smile ended the evening, as Tony left Katie at her hotel room door — It was the start of something amazing that continues today, as they share their daily adventure as co-pilots through life.
